Browser-Based Distributed DES Cracker Client

Instructions

Choose whether you want to do an online (distributed, talk-to-the-server) or offline (non-distributed, all-by-yourself) search for a DES key.
Click the "Start" button to begin the search of the keyspace.

Browser Support

Fully supported browsers: Firefox.
Partially supported browsers: Opera. (Minor UI issues.)
Unsupported browsers: IE. (Very unfriendly for JavaScript debugging. The DES JavaScript was working and may still be. The problem is likely only in the user interface JavaScript.)

Notes

Individual bytes are displayed in decimal, not hex.
Parity bits are ignored while checking keys. A hex version of the key with parity bits set is reported for found keys.
The "Distributed Key Search Info" data will update itself regardless of whether you are participating in the distributed key search.
If this works for you immediately without you having to click anything else in your browser, then you, my friend, need a lesson in Internet security. You should start by installing No Script.

Control

Delay: (Amount to wait after every 128 keys to leave some CPU cycles for you.)

Online Distributed keyspace search where the server tells your browser what to test.

Offline Non-distributed keyspace search of plaintext, ciphertext, and keyrange you specify.

Online

With online (distributed) testing, there are no options you need to set. Everything is decided by a centralized server your browser talks to.

Offline

With offline (non-distributed) testing, you can choose how the search is performed and what you're searching for.. You don't talk to the server at all and don't report what you find to anyone.

Key range size (number of bytes to search through, with each byte being only 128 keys, rather than 256, due to every 8th bit of the key being a parity bit thanks to the NSA and their desire to be able to break DES sooner):

Log

Enable logging if you want extra log data visible (slows down the search and over a long period of time will bog down the browser).
